Inverted comma，本意是：倒转的逗号、反转的逗号。它其实是指我们常说的：引号（quotation mark），或确切地说，是指：单引号。我们也可以观察到，将一个逗号（comma）向左反转，刚好形成一个单引号。
根据Wiktionary的说法，single style inverted comma，指的是：单引号。而double style inverted comma，则指：双引号。另外，Inverted comma，这种说法多出现于英式英语（British English）中。美式英语中一般说成：single quotation marks，或single quotes。
